Effects of Group Art Therapy Based on Psychocybernetic Model of Art Therapy(PMAT) on Anxiety, Self-Esteem, and Self-Expression for Old Adult with Mild Dementia in a Nursing Home

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to better understand how Group Art Psychotherapy based on Psychocybernetic Model of Art Therapy (PMAT) might affect anxiety, self-esteem, and self-express for the elderly mild dementia population residing in a nursing home. Participants were divided into two groups: 10 in the Experimental Group(EG) and 10 in the Control Group(CG). EG was provided with eight weeks at a frequency of two times per week from October 2014 to November 2014. Each session lasted 60 minutes. The structure of the art group therapy intervention was based on PMAT. CG was not provided with any session. Pre-and post intervention scores on two scales (STAI-Y1 and RSES) were calculated. For EG, images drawn by participants were selected from earlier part of the session and latter part of the session, They were evaluated for ASEA by four inter-raters. This study showed a significant decrease in STAI-Y1 and significant increases in RSES and ASEA Assessment. Findings of this study are meaningful because Group Art Therapy based on PMAT invention can help elderly population with mild dementia residing in a nursing home.
